Eleven-year-old Bodhana Sivanandan, a schoolgirl from north London, has made history by becoming the youngest ever holder of the woman grandmaster title. She secured the title at the Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan over the weekend.

Despite her international chess achievements, Bodhana returned to school in north London for a design and technology lesson by Tuesday morning. She is currently navigating her first term at secondary school.

Bodhana's father, Sivanandan Velayutham, taught her to play chess when she was five. She has previously beaten former British champion Peter Lee at the age of eight and became the youngest person ever selected for an England team in any sport.

Her recent victories in Samarkand have given her a rating of 2,382, exceeding the 2,300 points required for a woman grandmaster. She aims to become a grandmaster, stating, "I'm doing it because I like it, not to just chase records."
