Chinese swimmer Yu Zidi, 13, achieved an Asian Games record on Sunday, securing a gold medal in the women's 200m butterfly. The schoolgirl, who will turn 14 next month, completed the race in 2min 05.08sec.

This victory marks the first major title of her career. Yu Zidi previously became the youngest medallist in swimming world championships history last year, earning a relay bronze at age 12.

The Asian Games were officially opened on Saturday by Emperor Naruhito. Athletes are set to compete in over 40 sports for the next two weeks, with the Games concluding on 4 October.
