British cyclist Adam Yates has been forced to withdraw from the Giro d'Italia, a major stage race, after sustaining a concussion in a crash during stage two. The 31-year-old rider, who currently rides for UAE Team Emirates, was involved in an incident that led to his withdrawal from the event.
Yates, a former Tour de France runner-up, had been performing well in the early stages of the Giro, finishing sixth overall after stage two. However, the concussion he sustained has meant he is unable to continue in the competition.
Meanwhile, Paul Magnier, a rider for Team DSM, secured a surprise victory in stage three, crossing the finish line ahead of the favourites. The stage was marked by a series of attacks and counter-attacks, with Magnier emerging as the strongest rider in the final kilometre.
Magnier said after the stage, 'I'm absolutely over the moon with this result. It's been a dream of mine to win a stage in a Grand Tour, and to do it on my first attempt is just incredible.'
The Giro d'Italia continues without Yates, with the next stage set to take place on Friday. The riders will face a challenging route that includes several mountain passes, and fans will be eager to see who can emerge as the overall leader.
