Adventurer Karl Bushby has announced he completed a multi-day swim of the English Channel, stepping onto UK soil after a 28-year journey. The 57-year-old left Chile, South America, on 1 November 1998, with rules not to use transport to advance and not to return home until the journey was complete.
Mr Bushby stated that he swam from France to the UK, the final significant obstacle in his journey back to Hull. He reported swimming for 20 hours over three days, making landfall at Shakespeare beach, just south of Dover, at 15:30 BST on Monday.
His team confirmed that permission for the swim was obtained from both French and UK authorities. Mr Bushby's journey has spanned more than 30,000 miles across 29 countries, facing challenges such as visa restrictions, the 2008 financial crash, Covid-19, and geopolitics.
