TechCrunch has published a glossary of AI terms, aiming to explain the fast-moving vocabulary used in the industry. The guide covers terms such as artificial general intelligence (AGI), AI agents, chain-of-thought reasoning and diffusion.
The glossary notes that opaque recurrence, a reasoning technique in OpenAI's Astra model, has unsettled AI safety researchers. It also highlights that definitions of AGI differ: OpenAI's charter describes it as "highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work," while Google DeepMind views it as "AI that's at least as capable as humans at most cognitive tasks."
Other terms explained include AI agents, which perform multistep tasks on a user's behalf, and chain-of-thought reasoning, which breaks problems into intermediate steps to improve accuracy. The glossary is described as a living document that will be updated as the field evolves.
