Ema, a startup that uses teams of AI agents to automate corporate processes in areas such as HR, IT, and finance, has raised $77 million in a new funding round. This Series B round was led by Bengaluru-based venture firm Creaegis, with existing investors Accel, Section 32, and Prosus increasing their stakes. The financing brings the startup’s total funding to $140 million.

The company, founded in 2023 by former Google and Coinbase executive Surojit Chatterjee and ex-Okta executive Souvik Sen, aims to expand its position in the market where AI is beginning to compete with traditional enterprise software and IT services. Ema deploys technology it calls “AI employees” to coordinate multiple AI agents, helping to carry out multi-step business processes across existing applications.

Ema currently has more than 50 active enterprise deals and over 1 million active enterprise users, having handled more than 5 million actions and queries. Its customer base includes NTT DATA, Hitachi, ADP, PwC, Google, KPMG, Wipro, and Microsoft. The startup states its revenue has grown 50-fold over the past two years, with revenue bookings surpassing $150 million.

The new capital will primarily be used to expand Ema's go-to-market operations, particularly sales and marketing. While previously focused on customers in the U.S. and Europe, Ema plans to expand into new markets over the next year, specifically across Asia-Pacific, South America, and parts of the Middle East.

Why this matters: The funding highlights the growing competition between AI startups and established enterprise software and IT services companies for business spending.
