AI surveillance technology company Flock Safety is set to reduce its workforce by approximately 18%, affecting around 270 employees. This decision, reported by individuals with direct knowledge of the plans on Thursday, follows a voluntary buyout program.
The job cuts come as the maker of AI-powered surveillance cameras and license-plate readers faces increasing opposition to its products from communities and lawmakers. Employees are expected to depart the company at the end of October.
Flock Safety, which has about 1,500 employees, previously announced a voluntary separation program in September. The company has experienced rapid growth in recent years but is now under scrutiny from regulators, lawmakers, and privacy advocates.
