Jobs that rely heavily on human, face-to-face interaction are unlikely to be replaced by AI, according to Charlie Ball, a graduate employment expert for Jisc, the UK’s higher education digital, data and technology agency.
Ball suggests that futureproofing a career over 45 years in a period of rapid technological change is difficult. He advises focusing on equipping young people with adaptable skills rather than identifying specific AI-safe vocational paths.
However, if pressed, Ball indicates that fields such as research and development, engineering, creative arts and entertainment, medicine, nursing, midwifery, and education may offer more protection from AI than others. He notes that human creativity and oversight will remain crucial in these areas.
