Carlos Alcaraz has reached the US Open quarter-finals after a decisive fourth-round win against Tommy Paul. The 23-year-old Spaniard, playing only his fourth competitive singles match since a long-term wrist injury, beat Paul 6-4 6-3 6-4.
Alcaraz's injury had led him to miss both the French Open and Wimbledon earlier this summer. He has dropped only one set on his path to the last eight in New York.
The victory over Paul extends Alcaraz's run of match wins at Grand Slams to 18, following his wins at last year's US Open and this year's Australian Open. He will now face either American eighth seed Ben Shelton or Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals.
