One Show presenter Alex Jones has revealed she was "too scared" as a young girl to admit her ambition to work in television. Growing up in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, the 49-year-old broadcaster said she never believed such a career would be possible.

Jones, who has hosted the BBC's flagship magazine show since 2010, recalled thinking, "nobody in south Wales became broadcasters, especially not on national television." She was fired from two television jobs after university before getting her first break at 21.

The One Show is celebrating 20 years on air this month with a week of special programmes. Alex Jones and co-host Roman Kemp will lead the studio coverage, with segments from across the UK revisiting memorable stories.

Jones attributes the show's continued success to its "variety", noting that it offers a mix of guests from blockbusters alongside nature segments and writing competitions.
