Alexander Zverev, the top seed, has won the US Open, defeating American Ben Shelton in a four-set match with scores of 6-3, 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-2. This victory marks Zverev's second Grand Slam title of the year.
Shelton managed to win the third set after being down, but Zverev immediately broke his serve at the start of the fourth set. Zverev's strong serving, landing 69% of first serves and winning 85% of first-serve points, contributed to his win.
Zverev is now the fourth man in the open era to win his first two Grand Slam titles in the same season, following Jimmy Connors, Guillermo Vilas, and Jannik Sinner. He now leads Shelton 6-0 in their head-to-head record.
For Ben Shelton, this US Open final was his first Grand Slam final, capping a summer that also included a Masters 1000 title at the Canadian Open and a new career-high ranking of No. 4.
