US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has announced her decision to freeze her eggs and will be documenting the process online. The 36-year-old New York congresswoman revealed her plans for fertility treatment via Instagram stories this weekend.
Ocasio-Cortez stated that this choice allows her to "feel more in control of my life." She also highlighted a perceived lack of information available to women interested in such procedures, noting that women are often not taught about their bodies across various life stages.
She acknowledged the challenges of balancing fertility treatment with her congressional duties, sharing that she would be administering injections in a dressing room before a scheduled ABC interview. Ocasio-Cortez also displayed the medications and tools involved in the process, which typically includes injections over approximately 10 days or more.
During her ABC interview on Sunday, Ocasio-Cortez further discussed her decision, linking it to the current political environment. She criticised the administration for allegedly "denying reproductive care to women across the country," and emphasised the importance of leaders sharing such processes to normalise them for working women.
