Almost half of residential surveyors anticipate leaving the profession within the next decade, according to the first annual Survey of Surveyors conducted by Skyline.
The research found that 46% of respondents do not expect to be working in the sector in 10 years. The age profile of the profession suggests a potential recruitment issue, with 62% of those surveyed aged over 50 and fewer than 16% under 40.
The findings indicate that the industry could face a significant loss of experienced professionals unless more younger individuals enter the sector. The research suggests that greater engagement with schools, colleges, and universities may be needed to raise awareness of surveying as a career.
The survey also revealed that 66.4% of surveyors prioritised report quality. While most respondents believe AI could make their jobs easier, 54% currently do not want the technology to be more integrated into their businesses.
