Amazon has launched a new feature within its Alexa for Shopping AI assistant called “Update Me When”. The new addition, introduced on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, can send personalised notifications to consumers when new or relevant events occur that could prompt a purchase.
Examples of how the feature could be used include tracking new product lines from favourite brands, new seasons of TV shows, concert tour announcements from artists, or new book releases from authors. This launch is one of several AI-powered shopping features highlighted by Amazon.
Historically, Alexa has primarily responded to direct product questions. The company's latest AI strategy now aims to anticipate potential purchases before a shopper explicitly asks. While users currently need to configure these alerts themselves, Amazon also offers existing features like price tracking, which can alert users when a product reaches a specific price or discount percentage, and can even automatically buy the item if preferred.
