American Airlines and its subsidiary, AAdvantage Loyalty IP, have initiated legal action against Advantage Travel Centres, a British travel agent group, at the London High Court. The claim was filed on Tuesday in the High Court’s Intellectual Property Court.
The lawsuit reportedly relates to concerns over a logo used by Advantage Travel Partnership, according to a spokesperson for the travel agent group. American Airlines holds multiple registered UK trademarks for its loyalty rewards programmes through its special purpose vehicle.
Advantage Travel Partnership, which represents hundreds of independent travel companies, expressed surprise at the lawsuit. They stated they had been awaiting a response from American Airlines on the matter, which concerns a recent update to their corporate identity. The group added that the claim has not yet been served on them, so they lack further details regarding the allegations.
