Amy Hunt, 24, has clinched her second gold medal at the European Athletics Championships, triumphing in the women's 200 metres final in Birmingham. Her victory, achieved in 22.19 seconds, saw her outpace Ireland's Rhasidat Adeleke, who set a new national record for silver, and fellow Briton Dina Asher-Smith, who took bronze.
Hunt revealed after the race that she has been contending with significant health challenges this year, including low blood pressure, which has led to fears of fainting after her 200m races. Despite these concerns, she powered through, stating, "I just had to go into that one and get on the bend and be really brave, but it was an amazing race."
This win marks Hunt's second gold of the championships, following her 100m victory on Monday. She is now halfway to her ambitious target of securing an unprecedented four gold medals for a British athlete at a single European Championships, with the addition of a mixed 4x100 relay alongside the women's-only edition opening up this possibility.
Asher-Smith, who now has nine European medals in her career, expressed a desire for a different colour but acknowledged the significance of any medal. She still has the potential to become the most decorated athlete in European Championships history if she competes in both relays, aiming to surpass Poland's Irena Szewinska's record of 10 medals.
