Amy Hunt has achieved an unprecedented feat at the European Championships, becoming the first athlete to secure four gold medals at a single event. This historic win came as Great Britain's mixed 4x100m relay team clinched victory at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
The British quartet, comprising Jeremiah Azu, Dina Asher-Smith, Zharnel Hughes, and Hunt, crossed the finish line in a new European record time of 39.97 seconds. They outpaced silver medallists Germany, who finished in 40.11s, and third-placed Spain. The mixed 4x100m relay made its debut at these European Championships in Birmingham.
Dina Asher-Smith also made history, moving to the top of the European Athletics Championships all-time medal list across both men and women. Her 11th medal surpasses Polish sprinter Irena Szewinska's previous record of 10, bringing her total European golds to eight.
Hunt, the 2025 world 200m silver medallist, had already secured the sprint double and a gold with the women’s 4x100m relay quartet on Saturday night before her latest triumph.
