Amy Hunt has etched her name into the history books, becoming the first athlete to claim four gold medals at a single European Championships. This unprecedented achievement came as Great Britain triumphed in the mixed 4x100m relay at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
The British quartet, comprising Jeremiah Azu, Dina Asher-Smith, Zharnel Hughes, and Hunt, crossed the finish line in a European record time of 39.97 seconds. They outpaced silver medallists Germany, who finished in 40.11s, and third-placed Spain.
Dina Asher-Smith also made history, moving to the top of the European Athletics Championships all-time medal list across both men and women. Her 11th medal, and eighth gold, surpasses Polish sprinter Irena Szewinska's previous record of 10 medals.
The mixed 4x100m relay made its debut at the European Championships in Birmingham, providing the opportunity for Hunt to achieve her quadruple gold and Asher-Smith to add to her legacy. Hunt, the 2025 world 200m silver medallist, had previously secured the sprint double and a gold with the women's 4x100m relay quartet.
