Ancient human remains, discovered by a couple renovating their pub in Wye, Kent, are to be laid to rest in a churchyard today. Ross and Clare Sledger found the bones in 2019 while digging up their patio and contacted the police.
The remains were later estimated to be about 1,000 years old. They will be buried in the graveyard of St Gregory and St Martin Church in the village on Wednesday.
Reverend Ravi Holy, rector of the church, stated that a short service would be held, with some local community members attending. Maureen DeSaxe, archivist from the Wye Historical Society, noted that the discovery was not a surprise due to the area's history of skeletons being found during 1930s housing development.
