Andy Burnham has launched a campaign aimed at tackling nuisance behaviour on public transport. The initiative, unveiled on Monday, includes guidance that permits local transport authorities to impose fines of up to £100 for non-compliance.

Mr Burnham stated that the campaign seeks to address issues such as passengers playing loud music or videos from their phones, which he described as spoiling journeys. The campaign will remind passengers to use headphones on trains and grant local leaders new powers to tackle loud music, vaping, and littering on buses.

Transport workers will not be responsible for enforcing these new rules; instead, enforcement will be carried out by transport safety officers or police officers.

What this means for you: You could face a fine of up to £100 if found to be non-compliant with new rules regarding nuisance behaviour on public transport, such as playing loud music or vaping.
