Andy Burnham has completed his first week as Prime Minister of the UK, during which he has announced a series of policies. These include the re-introduction of a £2 cap on bus fares in England, with funding for devolved governments to implement similar measures.
The new Prime Minister has also announced a VAT cut on energy bills and confirmed a 20% reduction in business rates for hospitality firms, including small live music venues and pubs. These announcements are seen as an attempt to address cost of living pressures.
Additionally, Mr Burnham has launched No 10 North, stating its purpose is to "accelerate devolution" by "taking power down and placing it in the hands of people who can use it best." He has also revived the national economic council, which was initially established in response to the 2008 global financial crisis.
