Canadian poet Anne Carson and Chinese experimental writer Can Xue are currently the bookmakers' favourites to win the Nobel prize in literature. The announcement of the winner is expected on Thursday.
According to Ladbrokes, both Carson and Can Xue have 10/1 odds to secure the prestigious literary award. This year's prize is valued at 12m Swedish Krona, which is approximately £900,000.
Haruki Murakami follows with odds of 14/1, while Gerald Murnane and Thomas Pynchon are both at 16/1. Seven other writers, including Margaret Atwood, have odds of 20/1.
