Anthropic merges Claude chat and Cowork into one interface

Anthropic is combining its Claude chat and Cowork front-ends so users can access chat, Cowork and Artifacts in a single window, with the features rolling out to Pro and Max plans first.

  • The unified interface lets users access chat, Cowork and Artifacts within one window, with Claude automatically routing requests instead of requiring users to switch tabs.
  • Anthropic is adding dedicated features for creating, editing and presenting slides, downloadable as PDF or PowerPoint, and a Docs feature for collaborative document work.
  • The features are rolling out to Claude's Pro and Max plans first on web, desktop and mobile over the coming weeks, with free and team tiers planned later.

Anthropic is merging its front-end for Claude chat and Cowork, saying the change makes it less confusing for people to decide which tab to use for different tasks.

The unified interface lets users access chat, Cowork and Artifacts, Claude's interactive workspace feature, within one window. Claude Design, introduced in April for website and prototype design, also works anywhere within Claude. According to the company, customers often struggled to choose the right tab for the right task before this rollout. With the new design, Claude automatically routes requests without users having to switch tabs or windows.

Anthropic is also adding dedicated features for making presentations and documents. Users can ask the AI assistant to create, edit and present slides, and can download the generated presentation as a PDF or PowerPoint. With the Docs feature, users can work alongside Claude to create sections, ask questions and comment on completed parts. Generated documents or slides can be shared with a link and edited on a phone.

Users can also ask Claude to start creating a document on desktop and check the progress of the task using the mobile app.

The features are rolling out to Claude's Pro and Max plans first, on the web, desktop and mobile over the coming weeks. The company plans to extend them to the free and team tiers later. The update follows an upgrade of Cowork's memory layer, which helps Claude remember user context across chats.

Why this matters: The change aims to remove confusion about which Claude feature to use by routing work automatically through a single front-end.

What this means for you: Claude Pro and Max subscribers will see the unified interface and new presentation and document features on web, desktop and mobile over the coming weeks.
