Anthropic, an AI lab, has reportedly agreed a deal to rent around $45 billion in AI compute from Nscale, a British AI infrastructure company. The agreement will see Nscale provide compute using Nvidia’s Vera Rubin chips, a new state-of-the-art chip system.
Nscale, established in 2024, has previously secured deals with companies including Microsoft. The Vera Rubin system, which combines six different chips, is considered a cutting-edge chip design. The compute capacity from this deal is expected to begin powering Anthropic's services in late 2027.
This latest agreement is part of Anthropic's ongoing strategy to increase its compute capacity. Over the past eight months, the company has scaled up its capacity to compete with rivals such as OpenAI. Earlier this month, Anthropic signed a $10 billion deal with AI cloud startup Volta and a $5 billion deal with AMD in July. In May, it also entered a computing deal with SpaceX, reportedly worth $1.25 billion per month, and expanded partnerships with Amazon, Google, and Broadcom in April.
