Anthropic's Claude and Cowork now share user memory

Anthropic has enabled shared memory across Claude and Cowork, with no option to separate it between the services. Claude Code remains separate for now.

  • Shared memory is live across Claude and Cowork.
  • There is no option to separate memory between the two services.
  • Claude Code is not included in the shared memory feature at this time.

Anthropic has activated shared memory across its Claude assistant and Cowork collaboration service. The company confirmed that users cannot currently opt to keep memory separate between the two platforms.

Claude Code, Anthropic's developer-focused tool, remains outside the shared memory arrangement for now.

Why this matters: The change means user data and preferences will be shared across two major Anthropic services, raising privacy considerations for those using both.

What this means for you: If you use both Claude and Cowork, your activity and preferences in one service will be visible to the other, with no current way to keep them separate.
