Antonelli's Mercedes teammate George Russell, who started second, finished in second place. Max Verstappen of Red Bull secured third position. Lewis Hamilton, driving for Ferrari, finished sixth.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was involved in a significant accident early in the race at Parabolica but walked away unhurt. Mercedes had reportedly anticipated Antonelli might reach as high as fifth, but the 20-year-old exceeded expectations, further closing in on the world championship. Russell, who had aimed to reduce Antonelli's 59-point lead, is now 66 points behind.
