Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli claimed a breathtaking victory in an incident-packed Italian Grand Prix, starting from 19th on the grid. The Italian driver overtook his teammate George Russell, who began the race in second, with just three laps remaining.
This performance marks the second furthest back a driver has ever come from to win a Grand Prix, following John Watson's win from 22nd place in the 1983 United States Grand Prix West. Antonelli's win extends his championship lead to 66 points.
Antonelli's strategy included a mid-race stop for fresh tyres under a virtual safety car, which helped him close a 15-second gap to Russell. Max Verstappen of Red Bull secured the final podium spot, ahead of McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Ferrari experienced a disappointing home race, with Lewis Hamilton finishing sixth and Charles Leclerc crashing out early after losing control at the Parabolica.
