  • Kimi Antonelli won the Spanish Grand Prix, his eighth win in 14 races this year.
  • Lando Norris was leading from pole position when a virtual safety car was called on lap 15.
  • Norris's pit stop under the virtual safety car was slow, taking seven seconds instead of the usual two.

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli has won the Spanish Grand Prix. McLaren's Lando Norris, who had been leading comfortably from pole position, lost his advantage following the deployment of a virtual safety car (VSC) on lap 15.

Norris had already passed the pit exit when the VSC was called, allowing Antonelli and Max Verstappen to pit under the caution period and save time. The VSC ended before Norris could complete his lap to pit, and his subsequent stop was slow, taking seven seconds. He rejoined the race in fifth place.

Norris was only able to recover to third position on the new Madring track, where overtaking proved difficult. Antonelli's victory extends his championship lead to 81 points over team-mate George Russell and 101 points clear of Lewis Hamilton.
