Aoife Wafer Ruled Out of Ireland's WXV Global Series in South Africa

Influential forward Aoife Wafer will not travel with the Ireland squad for their WXV Global Series matches against South Africa later this month, following a "minor injury in training".

  • Aoife Wafer, a 23-year-old Harlequins player, is ruled out of Ireland's WXV Global Series trip to South Africa.
  • Ireland will play the Springbok Women in Cape Town on 24 and 31 October.
  • Second row Ruth Campbell returns from an ankle injury to join the 30-player squad, led by captain Erin King.

Aoife Wafer has been ruled out of Ireland's WXV Global Series trip to South Africa, which is scheduled for later this month. The 23-year-old Harlequins player will not travel with head coach Scott Bemand's 30-player squad for the WXV contests against the Springbok Women.

The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) stated that Wafer sustained a "minor injury in training", which also led to her missing Ireland's recent wins against Japan. These matches are set to take place in Cape Town on 24 and 31 October.

Former co-captain Sam Monaghan remains unavailable due to an Achilles injury. However, second row Ruth Campbell is returning from an ankle injury and has been included in the squad. The team, captained by Erin King, also features recently capped players Beth Buttimer, Jemima Adams Verling, Kate Jordan, Sophie Barrett, and Alana McInerney.

Following a remote training week, the Ireland squad is scheduled to return to the IRFU High Performance Centre on Monday before travelling to Cape Town on Thursday.
