Apple has disclosed an agreement to license technology and bring on team members from the personalized audio startup Huxe AI. This arrangement, described as a reverse acqui-hire deal, was revealed in a regulatory filing to the European Commission.
Under the terms, Apple will receive a non-exclusive license to Huxe's intellectual property rights and has agreed to make employment offers to "certain employees of Huxe AI." The filing does not specify who received these offers or if they have been accepted.
Huxe, founded by developers who previously worked on AI-generated podcast features for NotebookLM (now Gemini Notebook), announced its shutdown on May 21. The company stated it would be removing its app, halting service, and deleting user data. Apple notified the European Commission of its deal shortly after, on June 9.
