Get ready for a sonic storm from Argentina's sizzling dance duo EQ! Qiri (Candela Mattera) and Estratosfera (Laura Ferreira) have been electrifying audiences worldwide, including a raucous 200-strong crowd in Peckham, London. Their debut EP has sent shockwaves through the music scene, with fans enthusiastically singing along to their energetic beats at intimate venues like Vespers – where Qiri proudly waved her flag emblazoned with 'DANCE. RESIST. REPEAT.'
The Argentinian dynamo duo's rapid rise has seen them perform alongside Skrillex at his CONTRA festival in Berlin and embark on a maiden headline tour across Europe and Australia. They've also sparked attention through collaborations with artists like Shygirl, Isabella Lovestory, Babymorocco, and fellow countryman Six Sex – as well as remixes from top producers Nick León, umru, and Underscores (aka Milkfish).
Estratosfera credits the speed of their success to an unexpected phenomenon: many of their early influences are now their peers. Qiri adds that being from Argentina, the world's southernmost country, makes their global recognition all the more remarkable – and a testament to their hard work.
The creative chemistry between Mattera and Ferreira began when Ferreira, touring guitarist for Saralamacara, needed a music production machine. Enter Mattera, an electroacoustic experimental music student with the perfect equipment – and a proven track record. Their shared dedication to meticulous production, including hours spent on vocal perfection and intricate resampling techniques, is what sets EQ apart.
EQ's unique sound takes its cues from Buenos Aires' underground scene, but shuns conventional Latin genres like reggaeton and traditional rock. Tracks like 'B.S.A.S', inspired by Baltimore club music, and 'EQtamine', with its bold lyrics, showcase their industrial club influences. The duo is hell-bent on redefining what it means to be Latin – proving that experimental sound can be just as valid a representation of heritage.
