Arsenal agree £75m fee for Bruno Guimarães as midfielder set for medical

Arsenal and Newcastle have reached a compromise on a £75m fee for Bruno Guimarães, who is scheduled to undergo a medical in London in the coming days.

  • Arsenal will pay £75m for Bruno Guimarães, after initially wanting to pay no more than £60m.
  • Guimarães is set to leave Newcastle's pre-season training camp in Spain to fly to London.
  • Newcastle had demanded a minimum of £80m for the midfielder.

Bruno Guimarães is poised to join Arsenal in a £75m move after both clubs reached a compromise on the transfer fee. The Newcastle captain is scheduled to travel from the club's pre-season training camp in southern Spain to London for a medical in the next couple of days.

Arsenal had initially aimed to pay no more than £60m for the Brazil midfielder, who will turn 29 in November and has two years remaining on his contract. Newcastle, however, had demanded a minimum of £80m for their key player.

Guimarães reportedly expressed his determination to join Arsenal even before Eddie Howe stepped down as manager last week. He is understood to have informed incoming manager Matthias Jaissle of his desire to leave.

Lyon is set to receive approximately £7m from the transfer due to a sell-on clause, entitling them to 20% of any profit Newcastle makes on the sale of Guimarães.
