Arsenal have put major expansion plans for the Emirates Stadium on hold. The club will instead pursue a programme of smaller improvements, as its owners review the Premier League champions' broader operations.
A working group, led by chief executive Richard Garlick, was established in 2024 to assess the feasibility of increasing the stadium's 60,704 capacity. Reports had suggested a temporary move to Wembley for home matches was considered during any major redevelopment.
However, Arsenal has now decided against a large-scale project. The club will concentrate on what it terms the “continued evolution” of its home since 2006. Improvements are set to focus on hospitality, retail, visitor facilities, and the overall matchday experience.
Manager Mikel Arteta reportedly expressed concerns about the disruption a temporary relocation would cause. The club's owner, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, is understood to have engaged Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to examine parts of its operations, with this review being overseen internally by Garlick and currently ongoing.
