British tennis talent Arthur Fery's run at the Cincinnati Open concluded with a challenging third-round match against fifth seed Alex de Minaur. Fery, the 32nd seed, pushed the Australian over two hours before ultimately falling 7-5, 7-6(3) in a rain-affected encounter.
The match saw Fery serve well initially, but De Minaur broke through in the first set. After a rain delay between sets, De Minaur took control, though another delay at 5-7, 1-5 allowed Fery to regroup and force a tie-break in the second set.
Despite the loss, Fery leaves Cincinnati with valuable experience, having reached the third round of a Masters 1000 event. His single win in the tournament, a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(4) victory over James Duckworth, was his sixth best by ranking. Fery was also recently announced as part of the Great Britain Davis Cup squad, set to face Ecuador next month in London.
