French tennis player Arthur Fils has secured his place in his first Masters 1000 final at the Cincinnati Open. He achieved this milestone by defeating the No 7 seed, Flavio Cobolli, with a score of 6-3, 6-4 in a rain-delayed semi-final.
This victory marks a significant achievement for Fils, who has now reached a final, two semi-finals, and two other quarter-finals in his five completed Masters 1000 tournaments this year. He also won his fourth title at the Barcelona Open 500 event and has won four of his last six matches against top 10 opponents.
Fils, 22, will rise to a career-high ranking of No 11 and currently sits at No 6 in the race to the ATP Finals. He awaits the winner of the all-American semi-final between Frances Tiafoe and Brandon Nakashima.
In the women's draw, American Jessica Pegula defeated Iga Swiatek 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 to reach the final. Pegula will face either Coco Gauff or Sara Bejlek.
