A 23-year-old Asda worker has garnered significant praise for his compassionate intervention when an elderly customer was observed struggling during her shopping trip. Phil Snow-Griffiths, a produce team leader at the Asda Birchwood store in Warrington, stepped in to assist the woman who had decided to shop independently while her usual carer was unavailable.
The incident unfolded at the checkout, where Mr Snow-Griffiths noticed the customer attempting to balance a pack of 24 soft drink cans precariously on her walking frame. Recognising the potential safety risk and the difficulty she faced, he immediately offered his help. He explained that the woman had trouble walking, making it unsafe for her to manage the items on her frame, and that she had been planning to take the bus home.
Going beyond his regular duties, Mr Snow-Griffiths not only assisted the customer through the checkout but also ensured she had a comfortable seat. Crucially, he then arranged for a taxi to take her home, rejecting the idea of her navigating public transport with her purchases. He personally made sure all her shopping was securely loaded into the vehicle before it departed, demonstrating a commitment to her well-being from start to finish.
The customer, who wishes to remain anonymous, expressed immense gratitude for his assistance. Mr Snow-Griffiths, however, humbly stated that he is "always happy to help and support whenever and wherever I can." His actions quickly gained widespread recognition and commendation on social media platforms, with many users praising his kindness and thoughtfulness.
Michelle Simms, a customer manager at the Asda store, has since nominated Mr Snow-Griffiths for an Asda service superstar award. She highlighted his consistent dedication, noting that he "not only supports every area of the shop but is also excellent with our customers and is always happy to help," underscoring the positive impact his attitude has on both colleagues and shoppers.
