The full soundtrack for 'Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced', the remastered edition of the popular 2013 game, has been released for streaming. This comes shortly after the game's successful launch last week, which saw it sell more than two million copies within its initial two days on sale. The remake has also garnered significant critical acclaim, earning the title of the highest-reviewed Assassin's Creed game in over a decade.
The soundtrack album features the original 'Assassin's Creed Black Flag' score by Brian Tyler, complemented by 22 brand new tracks composed by Stephen Lukach. Additionally, a reworked version of the well-known sea shanty 'Leave Her Johnny' by Woodkid is included, adding a fresh dimension to the game's audio experience.
Martin Schelling, the head of the Assassin's Creed franchise, expressed his satisfaction in a blog post, stating that 'Black Flag' has always held a special place within the community. He noted that bringing it back with 'Resynced' was a commitment to the passion for Edward Kenway's adventures and the unique sense of freedom players originally experienced. The strong initial sales and positive critical reception were described as the greatest reward the team could have hoped for.
Composer Stephen Lukach also shared his excitement on social media, describing the experience of contributing new music to a franchise he has loved for many years as surreal and a true honour. He extended his gratitude to Ubisoft and the audio team for their trust, and to the musicians and collaborators who helped bring the score to life.
Critics have largely praised the new release, with NME awarding the game four stars. Their review highlighted 'Resynced's' ability to cement 'Black Flag's' position as a quintessential story-driven pirating epic, positioning it as a treasure-nabbing triumph that prioritises plunder-led adventure over being solely an Assassin's Creed title, despite minor flaws.
