Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. This development comes as the future of current Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez appears increasingly uncertain.

Japan international Suzuki, 23, has been a primary target for Villa should Martinez leave this summer. The deal for Suzuki is reportedly progressing and is said to be worth around £30m. Suzuki has made 59 appearances for Parma since joining in 2024 and played all four of Japan's matches at this summer's World Cup.

Martinez, 33, could now move to Juventus, who have shown interest in the Argentina international this summer. While director of football operations Damian Vidagany had previously stated Martinez would stay, he is now more likely to depart before the transfer deadline. Martinez, who joined Villa in 2020, missed Wednesday's Super Cup defeat to Paris St-Germain after being given a month off following the World Cup.
