Aston Villa Women have pulled off a masterstroke in the transfer market, snapping up Norway international defender Mathilde Harviken from Juventus. The 24-year-old centre-back is set to bring her trademark defensive solidity and attacking prowess to the Women's Super League, after making nearly 50 appearances for the Turin club since January 2025.
Harviken's time in Italy was a baptism by fire – she played a starring role as Juventus swept up Serie A titles, Coppa Italia victories, and even the inaugural Serie A Women's Cup in 2025. She'll bring valuable European competition experience to Villa Park, having lined out for the Italian giants in the Women's Champions League.
Before joining the big time in Italy, Harviken cut her teeth in Norway with FL Fart and Roa IL, before making over 80 appearances at Rosenborg from 2022. She burst onto the international scene in 2022, earning a senior call-up for Norway – and since then, she's been an integral part of their squads for both the Women's World Cup and Euro 2025.
"It's a really good opportunity to join a club with such a big history," Harviken exclaimed, as she looked forward to her new adventure in the WSL. "The facilities are top-notch here and I'm excited about everything on offer."
Aston Villa's Director of Women's Football, Marisa Ewers, had been tracking Harviken for over two years – and it's easy to see why. "Mathilde has a wealth of experience for her age and we believe she has all the attributes to make an instant impact here," Ewers said. "We're thrilled to have secured her services and can't wait to see what she brings to the team."
