Astronomer Mike Frost, a past chairman of the Coventry and Warwickshire Astronomical Society (CWAS), is set to observe a solar eclipse from Scoresby Sund, a fjord system in Greenland. This event marks the first major eclipse visible in the northern hemisphere since 1999.
Despite the location, Frost noted that he is unlikely to see the moon completely cover the sun from his position. The Met Office has forecast cloudy weather for Scoresby Sund, with a maximum temperature of 8C.
While the eclipse will be total over eastern Greenland, Reykjavik, and Spain, it will not be total from anywhere in the UK. However, almost all of the UK is expected to see a deep partial eclipse.
Members of the CWAS will be setting up telescopes in Broadgate, Coventry city centre, for public observations. The Chipping Norton Amateur Astronomy Group will also organise a gathering at Wolfords Village Hall in Shipston-on-Stour.
