Australia defeated South Africa by 214 runs in the first Test, which concluded today in Durban. Josh Hazlewood was instrumental in the victory, taking a six-wicket haul.
South Africa's Aiden Markram mounted a defence, scoring 75 runs from 237 balls over six hours, but was eventually dismissed as the ninth wicket. The Proteas resumed their innings on 102 for four, with Markram and Wiaan Mulder resisting Australia's attack.
Hazlewood made the initial breakthrough by dismissing Mulder. Player-of-the-match Matt Renshaw also contributed with two wickets, in addition to his 272 runs. Hazlewood then removed Marco Jansen and Simon Harmer before taking the final wicket of Anrich Nortje, securing the win for Australia.
