The number of Australians reported missing in the catastrophic Nepal flooding disaster has risen to 41. This increase follows three additional Australians being confirmed missing overnight, up from 38 on Friday evening.
Amidst the rising figures, one family is celebrating after Cara Severino, 25, who was previously unaccounted for, made contact. Ms Severino informed her parents on Friday morning that she was hiking away from the disaster zone to Kathmandu with a group of Nepali hikers.
The Red Cross has stated that approximately 600 people are dead and up to 93,000 people may have been affected by Wednesday's flash floods on the Nepal-Tibet border. Nepal's disaster management agency reports 1,924 people are unaccounted for, including 517 foreign tourists.
Australia has pledged $5 million in aid and support for the disaster. Four Department of Foreign Affairs crisis response team officers and four rapid response team members are expected to arrive in Kathmandu later on Saturday to support consular efforts and humanitarian response.
