Baldur's Gate 3 Boss Responds to My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way

Larian Studios, creators of the hit RPG Baldur's Gate 3, have offered a free game code to My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way. This follows Way's onstage comments about the game during the band's recent Wembley Stadium concert.

  • My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way discussed Baldur's Gate 3 onstage at Wembley Stadium.
  • Larian Studios, the game's developer, publicly offered Way a game code on X.
  • Larian CEO Swen Vincke joked about adding a 'parade' to their next game in response to the interaction.

Larian Studios' Swen Vincke is beaming with delight – and not just because his team's magnum opus, Baldur's Gate 3, has hooked yet another high-profile fan! The studio's founder and CEO has traded banter with My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way on social media, after the singer name-dropped the RPG during a recent Wembley Stadium concert.

The exchange was sparked when Mikey Way pointed out a fan banner inquiring if the band had played Baldur's Gate 3. Gerard Way confessed he'd only played the original, admitting "Not that I probably wouldn't have liked 2 and 3, but I just ran out of time." He then playfully asked the fan: "I would assume so. That first one was a lot of fun. It was the closest thing at the time to playing Dungeons & Dragons."

Needless to say, Larian Studios seized the opportunity to poke some good-natured fun at Gerard Way's admission – and offered him a special invite: "Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, what do you mean you haven't played the critically-acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons RPG, Baldur's Gate 3? There's a code with your name on it, if you fancy trying it. lots of love, larian xoxo." Vincke even threw in a cheeky aside: "I think we'll add a parade to the next game," a nod to My Chemical Romance's iconic album The Black Parade.

On a more sombre note, Gerard Way paid tribute to the late British Warhammer illustrator John Blanche during the Wembley concert. He dedicated the debut album track 'Vampires Will Never Hurt You' to Blanche, describing it as "a really, really horrific, nasty, spooky song." Meanwhile, Larian Studios has confirmed they're cooking up two new projects – including a fresh instalment in their Divinity series – after ruling out a Baldur's Gate 3 sequel or expansion for now.

Why this matters: This interaction highlights the growing crossover appeal between gaming and music, showcasing how popular culture figures can influence wider engagement with video games. It also demonstrates the responsive and community-focused approach of game developers like Larian Studios.

What this means for you: What this means for you: This story is a light-hearted moment for UK fans of both My Chemical Romance and 'Baldur's Gate 3', reinforcing the cultural relevance of both. It also showcases how direct engagement between creators and public figures can unfold in the digital age.
