The Barbican Conservatory is offering free plant cuttings to the public ahead of its three-year closure for restoration, which begins in January 2027. More than 2,000 cuttings will be available to those who have booked online, with the first collection event scheduled for Wednesday.
The Grade II listed arts venue is set to undergo a £231m overhaul. This project includes the development of a climate-controlled habitat for plants, new public access features like a lift and staircase, and relandscaping to improve growing conditions.
Two further plant adoption events are planned for 13 September and 2 December, requiring advance booking via the Barbican website. The Conservatory, which currently opens several times a month, is expected to reopen in 2030 and will then be open daily with continued free entry.
