Barcelona and Manchester City are yet to agree on a transfer fee for Rodri, as negotiations continue for the Spain World Cup-winning captain. Manchester City rejected an initial bid of £38.4m from the Spanish champions last week.
City is reportedly looking for around £60m for the Ballon d’Or winner. Rodri, who has spent seven years in Manchester, is in the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium and is keen to return to Spain.
Following minor back surgery after the World Cup, Rodri is a doubt for the start of the new season. City manager Enzo Maresca reportedly hopes Rodri will see out his contract, but the club is willing to negotiate with Barcelona to avoid him leaving for free next summer.
Manchester City has already broken their transfer record this summer, signing Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116m. The club is considering further midfield acquisitions, with Ayyoub Bouaddi and Enzo Fernandez reportedly of interest as potential replacements for Rodri.
