Barnaby Joyce, One Nation's deputy leader and Treasury spokesperson, has defended the party's new policy that would allow renters and mortgage holders to access their superannuation to boost their pay. Speaking to ABC's 7.30 on Monday night, Joyce stated that the policy would have a "minute" impact on inflation, despite warnings from the superannuation industry that it would stoke inflation.
Joyce also addressed allegations against One Nation's Victorian leader, Warren Pickering, concerning alleged drug use. Joyce described the historical allegations as "contested" and said he had not heard about them before a story was published in The Australian on Monday.
Separately, former Prime Minister John Howard, 87, discussed immigration settings in Canberra. He warned against banning migration from specific countries, stating that while there is a mood to prevent terrorism, stopping immigration or categories of immigration is difficult and could be more limiting than imagined.
