Battersea Power Station has entered the final phase of its £5bn regeneration project, following the submission of plans by its Malaysian owners for the remaining 16 acres of the site. This new development is projected to add as much as 3.2m sq ft of residential, commercial, and leisure space to the area.
The final phase, updated by Studio Egret West from original plans, is set to more than double the scale of the existing development. The site currently includes over 2,200 homes, approximately 800,000 sq ft of office space, and more than 170 shops, bars, and restaurants.
A consortium of Malaysian investors acquired the site and its redevelopment plans for £400m in 2012. Since then, these shareholders have invested over £5bn into the project. James Saunders, chief executive of the developer, noted that the refreshed masterplan aims to place community and connection at the core of Battersea Power Station, responding to changes in how people interact with cities.
