Development consent has been granted for the Beacon Fen Energy Park, a project comprising a 400MW photovoltaic farm and an integrated Battery Energy Storage System of up to 600MVA. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero announced the decision today, 21 August 2026.
The application for the energy park, which also includes an on-site substation and electrical connection, was submitted by Beacon Fen Energy Park Limited to the Planning Inspectorate on 8 April 2025. It was accepted for examination on 1 May 2025.
Following a six-month examination process, during which the public, statutory consultees, and interested parties provided evidence, recommendations were made to the Secretary of State on 22 May 2026. This decision marks the 112th energy application out of 180 examined to date by the Planning Inspectorate, completed within the statutory timescale.
Baroness Curran made the decision on behalf of the Energy Secretary's legal authority. The recommendation from the Examining Authority and the evidence considered are publicly available on the National Infrastructure Planning website.
