Sebastien Pocognoli, the former Monaco head coach, has been identified by the Scottish FA as their prime candidate to take over from Steve Clarke. The 39-year-old Belgian, who departed Monaco at the close of last season, previously guided Union Saint-Gilloise to their first league title in 90 years during the 2024-25 season.
Pocognoli is among several individuals who have held discussions with Scottish FA chief executive Ian Maxwell and chief football officer Craig Mulholland. An appointment is thought to be imminent, with Scotland's Nations League campaign set to begin on 26 September in Slovenia.
During his playing career, Pocognoli had stints in England with West Bromwich Albion and Brighton & Hove Albion, and earned 13 caps for Belgium. If appointed, he would become only the second foreign manager of the Scotland men's team, following German Berti Vogts. Steve Clarke resigned after a seven-year tenure, following the team's group-stage exit at the World Cup.
