Olympic silver medalist Ben Whittaker is gearing up for a pivotal fight this Saturday in Birmingham against Australia's Conor Wallace. The bout is seen as critical for Whittaker, who is expected not only to win but to do so with flair, according to promoter Eddie Hearn's Matchroom.
Matchroom remains confident in Whittaker's potential to become the new face of British boxing, especially as two-time heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua nears the twilight of his career. Whittaker, who secured a silver medal at the rearranged Tokyo Olympics in 2021, has been identified as a key part of Matchroom's future plans.
After a challenging professional scare in 2024, which was rectified last year, Whittaker is now considered among the top British boxers poised to advance the sport. The Wolverhampton-born fighter is reportedly one or two fights away from major contests and is already a significant attraction.
Whittaker previously faced a scare two years ago, resulting in a draw against Liam Cameron in Saudi Arabia. However, under the guidance of trainer Andy Lee, he secured a two-round victory in the rematch. Since that night in Riyadh last April, Whittaker and Lee have achieved three more wins, with two ending in the first round and one in the second.
